De-lurking

So I got my email notice yesterday that my automatic LJ payment went through and it hit me: I haven't posted a blessed thing since September.

Well that won't do. Not at all.

My only real excuse is the new house is keeping me pretty busy. (Seriously, this winter was not the ideal time to become a first-year homeowner! The perpetual daily shoveling was starting to feel like Groundhog Day.) Most of my online fun has been hit-or-miss in the stolen moments that I actually get to sit down. But I'm still around, really! And with any luck, I'll get back into the habit of posting more often again in the near future.

I hope all is well with my flist!

I really have no words for the tragedy that happened in Boston today, and I'm struggling to comprehend the cowardice of those responsible. As a runner, I'm familiar with the personal challenges, as well as the feelings of pride and achievement, that come with participating in an event like this. Assembled at the Boston Marathon today was an international community of runners - individuals representing dozens of different countries, pursuing not only their own personal goals, but also many who were running to benefit charities in need.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the innocent victims of today's tragedy. I'm especially praying that my local friends, who were participating in the event, come home safely.

Be kind to each other, everyone.

I submitted a bid for my own house this evening.

It all happened so fast, it was pretty surrreal. And it's difficult to really wrap my brain around yet it since I've never had an actual place that was just mine.

I'll find out if the sellers accept my offer tomorrow, so I guess we'll see!

Another night spent correcting a mound of papers. *groan*

I hate when real life and grown-up responsibilities take precedence when all I want to do is go out and give Dreamworks my money!

Not much besides a light mist out there so far, but they canceled school for the next two days already.

This . . . should be interesting.

Had kind of a sad day for a variety of reasons.

Thankfully, I found this on Facebook...

All the schools in my area are out for summer vacation. The kids are all running around during the day, some of the neighborhood pools are open, the weather guy on our local station has been playing "School's Out for Summer" on his forecast every morning this week, all the graduations have been listed in the paper . . .

Of course, the school district where I work still has two weeks left.

Ugh. Somebody shoot me.

(ETA: Did I mention that my building has no air conditioning?)

Whirlwind trip to NYC with students yesterday.

Saw John Stamos outside the Golden Theater on 45th Street.

It was a rather eventful day.

It's that time of year again. The time when I completely go insane and do . . . this:

It's going to be chilly and possibly rainy this year. (The weather guys can't seen to decide.)

Either way, it's Tough Mudder time! May God have mercy on our souls!

Well, I guess it's official now: I'm house-hunting.

Eep!

Even more fun blue dragons have made my night! Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] elektra_lyte, [livejournal.com profile] mist72, and [livejournal.com profile] razycrandomgirl! ♥

Also, it seems I won't be going on strike tomorrow! Thank goodness! (Because, yeah. That was happening.) My school district really likes to wait until the last possible minute to work things out, but at least we'll finally have a contract. Plus, I get to go to work tomorrow!

Oh.

Wait a minute...

Interesting how some cosmetic companies, in an effort to be "hip", are completely vague about how to use their products. I received some bath products from my friend for Christmas from a trendy, local cosmetic company near her home. One item was shaped like a cupcake and came with directions which stated, very succinctly, "Cupcake Pop: Just toss in the bath, and indulge! (Do not eat.)" I assumed it would be one of those fizzy bath bombs that dissolve or make bubbles or something like that.

So I dropped it in the tub and got ready to indulge.

It sank to the bottom and stayed there. For about 15 minutes I kicked it around with my foot, but it didn't dissolve, fizz, or even turn the water fun colors. After a while, I picked it up only to notice it was rather slippery...

Apparently, it was actually just a soap. (Of course, that's not indicated anywhere on the tag that was attached to it.) Oh, I'm sure it's a very nice soap, but I guess I was led to expect something different.

At least I didn't eat it.

Marathon #3 is in the books!

It was a little bit of a struggle in the heat, especially after the half-way point, so I didn't quite get the time I was hoping for. But I did get close to my personal record from last time! (And if I can do that when I'm struggling, I'm going to ROCK when I'm feeling awesome! So it's still a goal for next time!)

Thanks for the good luck wishes! I'm definitely looking forward to relaxing for a while now! (And maybe finally having a Krispy Kreme doughnut!)

Nerves haven't calmed down yet. That may be a problem for sleeping. (And 4:30 am comes quickly!)

Steamtown Marathon tomorrow morning!

BOO-yah!

Marathon Weekend is here! On Sunday I'll be doing the Steamtown Marathon for the first time. (Not my first marathon, but my first time doing our local one.) I'm hoping for a PR ("personal record") in this race of less than 4 hours.

I will also be wearing The Number. (Our local running club is called the 4:15 Club. It's a tradition that one member of the club wear the bib number 415 in the marathon. This year, they gave it to me.)

I don't know if it's the hometown thing, the number thing, the time goal, or the fact that so much of the course is downhill that I'm worried about burnout, but I'm probably more nervous about this race than I've been in a while!

Wish me luck, friends!

My school district called just now to offer me a job.

MY job.

As in, the same job I've been doing for them for 6 years.

After I got off the phone with the (very embarrassed) personnel secretary, I couldn't help but wonder: I do still have a job, right?
Followed by: Why is my name still apparently on the hiring list?
And finally: At least they were trying to fill my position with me and not with someone else.

Most. Bizarre. Thing. Ever.
