There's a lot to look forward to in 2009. More Dr. Who, the eventual last half-season of BSG . . . and then there's this:

Cut for Big Old Movie Poster Goodness )

Some discussion of the DLM movie. Spoilers, but none beyond what is posted in the plot synopsis )

Personally, I can't wait to see this! But "wait" is the operative word: It was supposed to have been released on the 22nd of last month, and has now been pushed to 2009.

The only good part about that is it shares a release-time slot with some of my other favorites.

Took a sick day today because . . . ugh.

Then after much sleep and some shiny new antibiotics I have become a permanent fixture in front of both my computer and my television. (I could think of worse places to be on a sick day.)

On a whim, I rediscovered my Dead Like Me love today. And while I prefer to watch my DVDs, I'll probably catch it tonight on Sci Fi since I'll have the time. (There's something neat about watching the edited versions anyway. Since they have to cut so much - due to language, content, etc. - there are actually extra scenes added in as well as alternate - not just dubbed - versions of some of the original segments. Someone was planning ahead for network syndication! *G*)

In my online travels, I also discovered some interesting stuff relating to the show:

-- An interview with DLM creator Bryan Fuller from this past October in which he discusses some of his original plans for the show, as well as what he would to have liked to see happen. Some passing spoilers if you're not familiar with DLM )

-- A cute game in which you can sic a Graveling on Showtime execs. For anyone who may still be bitter over the show's cancellation. *G*

-- Metisse has recently released a new album. (As of yesterday, I believe.) Anyone who has seen DLM is probably very familiar with "Boom Boom Ba," which received heavy play throughout the series. The new album (as well as some samples) is available on their website and their MySpace page. (The title track "Nomah's Land" was featured in Season 2.)

Since I've been home, I've noticed an odd thing happening whenever a voice post appears on either my friends list or my friends of friends list. It makes all the remaining posts on that particular page smoosh together (inside the voice-poster's box) and all I'm able to see from that point on are the comment links and mood themes (but nothing from the actual posts themselves).

Has that happened to anyone else? (Have I even explained it well?) I thought maybe it was a glitch with Flexible Squares, but it's strange that it only started happening over the past four days. I never had issues with my friends making voice posts before. Huh.

In other news, it almost seems as though Serenity is on one of the Cinemax channels every time I turn on the TV -- which is rather cool. I also had a nice long Dead Like Me marathon today. Good times. :)

Mason. Mason. Mason.

I miss that show a lot. I was watching a few episodes from last season (Showtime Beyond had a mini-marathon.) and I found it sad to think that we won't be getting any new ones. (From what I hear, there's still talk. But as long as that's all it is -- talk -- I'm not getting my hopes up.)

Shame. I'm going to miss reviewing the episodes.

*sigh* Bed now. Early morning.

At glass class the other night, in lieu of one of the Harry Potter books on CD (again), the Sensei popped in his Season 1 DVD of Dead Like Me and we started watching them from the beginning.

Damn. I'm going to miss that show so much if it's really going off the air for good.

I had a great time with Tommy this weekend, though I returned home to a few disappointing bits of information.

- Though our neighbor had graciously shoveled the driveway, the snow that the plow had piled up in front of it made for a busy afternoon once we had returned.

- Regardless of the foot and a half of snow that fell in the great white Northeast this weekend, school was not canceled. Which means I lost my personal day after all. It also means that I do, indeed, need to have final grades completed and new lesson plans ready by tomorrow. (The extra day to prepare would have been much appreciated.) Ah, well. It's not like I hadn't expected that part, at least.

- Where have all the Torrents gone? I know I haven't visited some of my favorite BitTorrent sites for a while, but it seems that some of them (including SuprNova) are no longer offering Torrents for download. Am I completely out of the loop here? Anyone know of a good alternative I can try?

And the most upsetting one of all....

- Say it isn't so! Dead Like Me canceled? After only two seasons? Apparently, it happened a while ago; I just missed any pertinent announcements. More recent news has mentioned the WB possibly stepping in to pick up the series, though I'm not sure how I'd feel about that:
A) The show might lose something in the translation from cable to network television. A lot of the raw emotion and sharp-tongued humor was what made the show so good. And...
B) The style of shows on the WB have been really poor over the last few years. I'd hate to see DLM turn into another cookie-cutter teen angst drama. (And after Angel, I really don't want to have to rely on the WB to take care of one of my favorite shows.)

A lot of people have said that the second season wasn't as good as the first, but I'd tend to disagree. In many ways, I felt it was even better and I'd be very disappointed if it didn't have the opportunity to grow even further. There's an online petition which has acquired an impressive amount of signatures so far. And, while I'll probably add my name as well, I tend to feel they aren't as effective as we'd all hope they would be. (Probably more so than simply crossing my fingers, though. But I'll most likely be doing that too.)

I went to see The Grudge with Cortney yesterday. I enjoyed it, though it wasn't as scary as I thought it would be. )

It was probably one of the better (less cheesy) horror movies that I've seen in a while, however. (Just a really good ghost story.) It made me start thinking about how so many of the "scary" movies that I've seen are really anything but. In fact, so many are downright hysterical (not necessarily bad, just funny). A while back, I posted a review of the humor that was Cabin Fever, a movie that I simply had to buy the DVD of...if only for the "family-friendly version" and the "Pancakes!" special feature. Today, I was also watching Amityville 1 and 2 with Cortney and Mark and couldn't help but giggle at the ridiculousness of some of the scenes. (The incest of Part 2 was probably the scariest thing!) We also partook in the humor of Poltergeist 2 (I love how creeped out Mark gets by the Preacher.) and Freddy vs. Jason and found the biggest guilty pleasure in Film Fakers on AMC. (Speaking as someone who despises Reality TV, I thought this one was definitely worth watching!) In fact, I kind of wish Croc Park was a real movie now. I would have had a ball hearing lines like: "'Kiss me!' 'Bite me!'", "Sweet, succulent flesh!", and "You may bite through my flesh, but you will never bite through my soul!" uttered in a real film...with a straight face.

We did our own fair share of scaring people today. You know, being Halloween and all. Note to remember: You really want to scare the little kids on Halloween, try decorating your house for a different holiday. Since my brother had been home from Okinawa for two and a half weeks my family celebrated Christmas early...which means ye olde yuletide decorations (yes, tree and all) are all up already. To complete the theme, my father dressed up as Santa Claus to greet the trick-or-treaters (with myself as an elf), asked the kids what they wanted for Christmas, and pulled candy to give them out of his bag. Would you believe there were kids too afraid to come near him! I mean, it's Santa! (He's always watching! Yes, that means Halloween too, kiddies.)

And, finally, one last observation about Dead Like Me....Read more... )

I do so love that show. Eagerly awaiting next season now.
