Another night spent correcting a mound of papers. *groan*

I hate when real life and grown-up responsibilities take precedence when all I want to do is go out and give Dreamworks my money!

I have one final test to take before I get my administrative and supervision certification. I had to put it off for a few reasons last year, but was determined to schedule the earliest possible exam this year - just to finally be finished with it.

So I did. It's a $115 exam as it is. (Cha-ching!) I scheduled early, so there would be no chance of additional late or emergency fees. I was very pleased with myself . . . right up until I hit the "confirm" button. The moment I did that, I realized my mistake.

I'll be at a concert in Philadelphia the night before until who-knows-what-time.

The test I scheduled is for 7:00 the next morning. (Which means I'll be super well-rested . . . if I sleep at all, after driving 3 hours to get home!)

It cost me another fricking $30 to change the date.

*headdesk headdesk headdesk*

I'm usually only stressed out like this during the actual school year!
sharelle: (Snape - Shut Up)
All the schools in my area are out for summer vacation. The kids are all running around during the day, some of the neighborhood pools are open, the weather guy on our local station has been playing "School's Out for Summer" on his forecast every morning this week, all the graduations have been listed in the paper . . .

Of course, the school district where I work still has two weeks left.

Ugh. Somebody shoot me.

(ETA: Did I mention that my building has no air conditioning?)

WTF, LJ?

Oh, wow. I really hate the new LJ cuts.

Like burning.
sharelle: (Evil Teacher Club (from mustangsally78))
Apparently, our building's entire network was down today. Naturally, it was the day our students were scheduled to take the National Spanish Exam, which is an online test. So already, there was mucho stress in my department.

Then, as if the faculty wasn't already painfully aware of the situation, our school district decided to inform us that the computers were down.

They did this by sending a mass e-mail. *headdesk*

As if that wasn't enough, they made an announcement saying that, since the computers weren't working, teachers should send a hard copy of their attendance lists to the office rather than submitting them online. (Because, duh. We can't.) They went on to request that we not simply write the students' names on a piece of paper, but print out and mark the appropriate boxes on the school's official attendance sheets.

Which are located on the school's website. Online.

*double deaddesk*

God, the stupid burns. (I do work in an academic institution, right? Because some days I really wonder.)

Interesting how some cosmetic companies, in an effort to be "hip", are completely vague about how to use their products. I received some bath products from my friend for Christmas from a trendy, local cosmetic company near her home. One item was shaped like a cupcake and came with directions which stated, very succinctly, "Cupcake Pop: Just toss in the bath, and indulge! (Do not eat.)" I assumed it would be one of those fizzy bath bombs that dissolve or make bubbles or something like that.

So I dropped it in the tub and got ready to indulge.

It sank to the bottom and stayed there. For about 15 minutes I kicked it around with my foot, but it didn't dissolve, fizz, or even turn the water fun colors. After a while, I picked it up only to notice it was rather slippery...

Apparently, it was actually just a soap. (Of course, that's not indicated anywhere on the tag that was attached to it.) Oh, I'm sure it's a very nice soap, but I guess I was led to expect something different.

At least I didn't eat it.

I need to drive about 2 and a half hours today after work to the university from which I'm receiving my Masters degree. Apparently, it's the only college in existence that can't/won't allow off-campus students to close their accounts via phone or Internet before graduation. (Yeah, because I should really *need* to close an account in the security office at a campus on which I've never set foot.)

Not how I was hoping to spend my Friday.

I've been on Fanfiction.Net a lot more than usual recently. (I go through phases over there. But I have been writing a bit of new fic lately, so there it is.)

But UGH! Why are there so many people on that site who insist on treating their FF.N profile like a blog page?

Seriously!

By the time I scroll down what feels like miles of self-surveys, favorite pairings, quiz results (!), and other mind-numbing personal information (One member even detailed a fight she'd had with her mother!), I've completely forgotten why I clicked on their profile to begin with!

It's a profile, people! Keep it simple and short. If you want a blog, get an LJ. Something that allows cut-tags, for goodness sake! *headdesk*

I have been getting an awful lot of chain letters lately. (Both in my inbox and in my actual mailbox.) *groan*

I am *so* not in the mood for those. Especially not the guilt trip/scare tactics that come with them. I don't need to hear that someone I care about may die horribly if I delete this animated .gif and don't pass it along to 15 people. Or that I might lose my job if I fail to mail out 10 copies of a letter.

Seriously. I'm feeling lousy enough right now as it is.

So You Think You Can Dance? is on in the other room. Oh my god - that female judge has the most shrill chicken-voice I have EVER heard! I can't stand listening to her!

Although I never really wanted one, I finally broke down and got myself a Facebook page. )

In other news, the marathon training has been going very well. Got a good 15-miles in last week and looking to do an 18 either next week or the week after. However, I'm starting to feel a little nervous that my dad hasn't been going as fast as me during our training. I'm the one who's starting to have to drop back, and that worries me a bit - I never had to do that before. I'd like to think it's just me improving, because I hate to think there might be something wrong with him.

I'm also kind of missing The Boy this week. (He's on vacation with his family in Jamaica.)

The Good
- I love my new solid shampoos from Lush. They make my hair smell so pretty!

- The first weekend of '09 and I have 10 miles under my belt. (It's a marathon year again!)

- I have leftover Thai for lunch tomorrow.

- I'm greatly enjoying the book I'm currently reading. (Too bad the time I have to read it is about to be drastically reduced!)

- I received a few submissions for [livejournal.com profile] tardos_treasure. Very few, but still - it's a start! When I get a few more, I'll get a master list of nominees up and running.

The Bad

- I have to go back to work tomorrow. (Yeah, that pretty much tops it.)

- Do I even remember what I was working on with my students?

The Whiny (Or is it "wine-y?")

- Someone opened a bottle of wine that I had been saving, and now it's nearly gone.
