One of my favorite places to run is Lake Scranton. It's beautiful, and lots of woodland creatures have grown accustomed to all the human foot-traffic.
Yesterday, I had a mother deer and a fawn running alongside me. Add a spontaneous musical number and a few cartoon birds tying bows in my hair, and it was a scene fit for a Disney princess.
Hee!

Prayers for Boston
Apr. 15th, 2013 06:11 pmI really have no words for the tragedy that happened in Boston today, and I'm struggling to comprehend the cowardice of those responsible. As a runner, I'm familiar with the personal challenges, as well as the feelings of pride and achievement, that come with participating in an event like this. Assembled at the Boston Marathon today was an international community of runners - individuals representing dozens of different countries, pursuing not only their own personal goals, but also many who were running to benefit charities in need.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the innocent victims of today's tragedy. I'm especially praying that my local friends, who were participating in the event, come home safely.
Be kind to each other, everyone.

Steamtown Marathon!
Oct. 9th, 2011 01:58 pmMarathon #3 is in the books!
It was a little bit of a struggle in the heat, especially after the half-way point, so I didn't quite get the time I was hoping for. But I did get close to my personal record from last time! (And if I can do that when I'm struggling, I'm going to ROCK when I'm feeling awesome! So it's still a goal for next time!)
Thanks for the good luck wishes! I'm definitely looking forward to relaxing for a while now! (And maybe finally having a Krispy Kreme doughnut!)

Marathon Weekend!
Oct. 7th, 2011 05:23 pmMarathon Weekend is here! On Sunday I'll be doing the Steamtown Marathon for the first time. (Not my first marathon, but my first time doing our local one.) I'm hoping for a PR ("personal record") in this race of less than 4 hours.
I will also be wearing The Number. (Our local running club is called the 4:15 Club. It's a tradition that one member of the club wear the bib number 415 in the marathon. This year, they gave it to me.)
I don't know if it's the hometown thing, the number thing, the time goal, or the fact that so much of the course is downhill that I'm worried about burnout, but I'm probably more nervous about this race than I've been in a while!
Wish me luck, friends!

Other than fic, I haven't posted much lately. It's that time of year when I'm either glued to the TV to watch the Tour de France, or out running. Today it was both. :)
I was so disappointed that Bradley Wiggins crashed out today! I wanted to see him get onto the podium so badly this year! Though I'm increasingly impressed with Mark Cavendish. He's so fun to watch! (Seems that in the absence of Armstrong, all my favorite riders seem to be from across the pond.)
I also have my own racing to do - on foot for me, though. One this weekend in Utica, NY and another marathon in October. So I was out on the road early this morning. Woohoo!

"Getting things done with Delores"
Mar. 22nd, 2011 10:23 pmI'm happy to say I've been pretty productive lately:
* Internship portfolio for my administrative certification: Done and submitted.
* Classes to go for my Masters Degree: Just the one I'm taking!
* Outstanding major student assignments to correct: None
* Miles I'm up to in Tough Mudder training: 10
* Fic written: 12,000 words!
Go me! :)

Tough Mudder
Feb. 15th, 2011 06:08 pmBecause I clearly don't do enough crazy things, I let my co-workers talk me into signing up for this.
No, really. This is how crazy I am.
And I'm registering for another marathon this year.
Good times.
