I went to see The Grudge with Cortney yesterday. I enjoyed it, though it wasn't as scary as I thought it would be. I had some confusion throughout the film as to when each of the flashbacks were supposed to be taking place. (How long was Matthew's family living in that house, anyway? I'd originally assumed it was a long time, since Yoko seemed to know her way around, but then things would happen where it would almost seem like they weren't there more than a day or two.) It definitely wasn't as scary as The Ring, but it had some really suspenseful moments. The whole scene with Susan in the office building and then again in her apartment. Especially the part with the rabbit's foot. (Cortney went to college with KaDee Strickland in Philly, by the way, which was pretty cool.) I don't think the movie was very clear as to what the curse actually was or what it had the ability to do (Was she eating people? Was she able to trade bodies with them?) but it was very entertaining overall, even if it wasn't too terribly scary. (That frog-sound that she was making is sure going to stay with me, though! *G*)

It was probably one of the better (less cheesy) horror movies that I've seen in a while, however. (Just a really good ghost story.) It made me start thinking about how so many of the "scary" movies that I've seen are really anything but. In fact, so many are downright hysterical (not necessarily bad, just funny). A while back, I posted a review of the humor that was Cabin Fever, a movie that I simply had to buy the DVD of...if only for the "family-friendly version" and the "Pancakes!" special feature. Today, I was also watching Amityville 1 and 2 with Cortney and Mark and couldn't help but giggle at the ridiculousness of some of the scenes. (The incest of Part 2 was probably the scariest thing!) We also partook in the humor of Poltergeist 2 (I love how creeped out Mark gets by the Preacher.) and Freddy vs. Jason and found the biggest guilty pleasure in Film Fakers on AMC. (Speaking as someone who despises Reality TV, I thought this one was definitely worth watching!) In fact, I kind of wish Croc Park was a real movie now. I would have had a ball hearing lines like: "'Kiss me!' 'Bite me!'", "Sweet, succulent flesh!", and "You may bite through my flesh, but you will never bite through my soul!" uttered in a real film...with a straight face.

We did our own fair share of scaring people today. You know, being Halloween and all. Note to remember: You really want to scare the little kids on Halloween, try decorating your house for a different holiday. Since my brother had been home from Okinawa for two and a half weeks my family celebrated Christmas early...which means ye olde yuletide decorations (yes, tree and all) are all up already. To complete the theme, my father dressed up as Santa Claus to greet the trick-or-treaters (with myself as an elf), asked the kids what they wanted for Christmas, and pulled candy to give them out of his bag. Would you believe there were kids too afraid to come near him! I mean, it's Santa! (He's always watching! Yes, that means Halloween too, kiddies.)

And, finally, one last observation about Dead Like Me.... It must be hard for Roxy to work both her jobs and justify one to the other. Knowing that a killer is about to strike, and, as a cop, to just let it happen simply because she needs to take their soul...hmmm. Law enforcement must be a tough trade for a Reaper.

Oh, and Crystal knows something. Of course she does.

I do so love that show. Eagerly awaiting next season now.
