21 – Sequels – Have you ever written a sequel to a fic you wrote, and if so, why, and if not, how do you feel about sequels?
I've never written a sequel to any of my stories. At least none that I've actively published. (The one I did write I was never quite happy with.) I really do love to read sequels, though. If a story I've enjoyed happens to get a new installment, or an author I love decides to publish a continuation, I'm usually all over it! When it comes to my own writing, however, I've just never been inspired to write any follow-ups - at least not yet. Most stories that I plot through to the end, I do so with an actual ending in mind, so the itch to continue just hasn't struck me yet. Who knows, though. Maybe someday it will.
I have, however, written stories that all exist in the same basic "universe" as each other. Most of my D&D stories, for example, do occur along my own personal timeline, and sometimes they reference each other. (Though often the references are blink-and-you-miss-it details.) It helps me stay consistent with my own material. I suppose that's as close as I've gotten to sequels so far.
