Whoa. I haven't had a first-day-back throw me for that big a loop in a long time. This is going to be an interesting school year.

6 – When you write, do you prefer writing male or female characters?

I don't necessarily feel a strong affinity toward female characters just because I also happen to be female. And one might assume that I prefer writing male characters because so many of my favorite (previously mentioned) characters just happen to be male. But I'm not sure gender really plays a role in what I like to write. In fact, I can think of a number of female characters that I *love* writing: Zoë (from Firefly), Diana (from D&DC), Buffy (from Buffy, duh), Roxanne (from Megamind).

I think it's more that certain character types call to me. And if that character just happens to be male, I'll write a male; if the character happens to be a woman, then I'll write a woman. As long as I feel comfortable enough in their heads to give them a voice, and I can make that voice sound true-to-character, I definitely enjoy writing both.
