Fanfic Author Appreciation Week
March 6 through March 13
Post to your LJ each day at least one of your favorite fanfic authors and why you love them, their work, and why they need more appreciation.
I'd like to start with three authors from the first online fandom I ever became involved with -- the D&DC.
fayzalmoonbeam was one of the first writers I'd read (not just in that fandom, but in the world of fanfic in general). Not only did her writing take me back to a program I used to love as a child, but with stories like Welcome Home (Part 1) and later Run to You, she also introduced me to a more adult perspective of the show -- something my more-adult mind could get into. She has a fluid and beautiful writing style that can just get to the heart of a tender situation. And she is at her best when packing an emotional punch while using a very simple method. Her latest drabble (the third one down) is a perfect example.
I'd also be remiss if I didn't mention
vicxntric right off the bat. I absolutely fell in love with Lambs Among Wolves years ago, and it remains, in my opinion, one of the best stories of that fandom. Vic is also a gorgeous talent when it comes to characterization; her voices always sound so genuine and real. This is no more evident than in her "elseworld" fic The Dollmaker, which, even though its setting is AU, contains characters that are still so true to their histories on the show. (I consider this one an absolute must-read, it's so beautifully plotted and executed.)
And finally, I must mention
bat_cheva, whose edgier fiction has always been a wonderful "did-it-just-get-hot-in-here?" escape! She is such a prolific writer and seems just as expert when it comes to writing darker, bleaker stories as she is when doing the more playful, smutty romps. (And while I've always enjoyed reading "Nightmare," and still wonder what will happen next, I must admit that "Love Stinks" has always been my favorite! I loved the humor and the comedy-of-errors aspect of it!) I do hope to be able to enjoy these again sometime in the near future!
Congratulations, ladies! Consider yourselves highly appreciated! (Especially to me since, if it wasn't for stories like yours, I probably never would have written a thing myself.)

Sweetheart! *hugs* Thank you so much for the accolade. It's made my day, as I'm currently off work with flu :( Thank you for saying such wonderful things about my work-you know, you inspire me too! Your writing has made me smile, cry, have attacks of the warm fuzzies and everything in between. This author appreciation week is a great idea, and as soon as I can type more than six lines without fainting I'm going to do the same :)
Love,
Fay xx

Date: 2005-03-07 06:18 pm (UTC)Thanks so much. Although I still contend that these kids are so familiar to me that they write themselves. I just throw them into a situation, watch them try to get themselves out and write down what happens. *g*
