I hate bumper stickers to begin with. Sure, some of them have clever quotes on them, but that doesn't mean I actually want them anywhere *near* my car.

Then, on my way home today, I pulled up behind this gem at a stop light:

My kid got your
honor student PREGNANT!

Seriously? See, to me that's neither clever nor remotely funny. That's just brainless.

I think the thing that irked me the most about it was the shameless disregard for not only the value of education, but also that of basic decency. Granted, the person who owned the car may or may not have even been a parent (and I shudder to imagine the latter), but to promote -- and even worse praise -- this sort of thing as humor speaks volumes about the base value system of some people.

Niiiice.

We don't really do bumper stickers over here. Instead we get parents putting their children in sexually suggestive tracksuit bottoms and TShirts, which, I'm sure you'll agree, is much classier.

We get that too. (My favorite is when the kids are around 5-6 years old - sometimes younger. You know they don't put themselves in those clothes!)

Really, the stupidity burns.

I don't think it's stupidity... well, maybe there's a touch of stupidity there, considering the weird double-think in some parents that leaves them utterly terrified of paedophiles on every street corner, while dressing their primary school kiddies in Playboy Bunny TShirts and trackies with "Babe" written on the seat. I think it's just nasty. And some of the mums do dress themselves exactly the same too. I've seen several Mums & Tots in matching pink tracksuits. I'm not sure whether dressing kids in clothes suitable for an adult might just be that the parents want a little mini-me.

(Looks at own daughter's wardrobe... lots of dark cords, denim, tops with cartoon characters on them... looks at own wardrobe... dark cords... denim... tops with cartoon characters on them... Crap.)
