Wow. I actually think I'm in mourning over this.

Yesterday I found out that my favorite restaurant closed down. For good.

I'm not talking about "ranks-among-my-favorites-because-they-have-pretty-good-food" restaurant. I have a number of those. I'm talking about my Favorite Restaurant of All Time restaurant. Closed for good.

A friend of mine went there not too long ago to see a sign on the door that said (and I'm paraphrasing here, since I didn't see it myself): We've retired. Closed permanently.

WHA--? HUH--? GUH--?!?!

I knew the people who owned it pretty well (they were the parents of a girl I knew when I was in high school), but not well enough that I know how to get in touch with them now. I'm just bummed that the last time I was there (which was several weeks ago) they didn't tell me they were retiring. I would have loved to go one last time.

When you're talking about your Favorite Place Ever, it's hard to imagine I'll Never Have That Again.

I know it's just a restaurant, but am I crazy for being so sad about this? `Cause I am.

In happier news, I did another 15 mile run this morning. I was shooting for 20, but we had to return early because Dad had an afternoon commitment.

I did, however, shave 20 full minutes off my last 15-miler. And I actually *don't* feel like I'm about to fall apart. (Plus my sinuses are clearing.)

Wow. I didn't think improvement like that happened to real people. *G*

I was devestated when a really lovely local tea room (that had an AWESOME Victorian theme...the staff even wore the costumes and everything!) closed down and became a pizza joint.

A PIZZA joint.

Now, I love pizza. But we have so many pizza places and take aways around here it's not even funny anymore.

All the classy places to eat are disappearing and we're just left with snotty/cold places or really undesirable "white trash" (aka "Chav") places. :-(

Nope, you are totally justified in being sad. I remember how much it sucked when two of my favorite restaurants in philly shut down in the same year.

Not at all!

I'd feel exactly the same way if my favorite closed down. It's run by a tiny Vietnamese woman who is getting on in years and I gotta think she's going to want to retire someday. I can only hope she'll at least sell it instead of closing it.

It's so not silly. Places are important because you have a lot of good memories and feelings there, stability of places is important, and when they go away, it feels like a part of yourself is gone...especially if it was unexpected. *HUGS* And WOW...15 MILES!!!

Oh, I'm so sorry for your loss. That's so sad when something you've made a part of your life on a routinely basis isn't there for you anymore. And even more sad because you didn't get that one last go to have all your favorite items one last time. :(

There was a bakery near my Mom'd house that had the bestest ever cakes with the yummiest chocolate butter-cream frosting that was solurgley-- excuse me while I get that drool puddle there... *ahem* it was so light and creamy and just perfect! The lady who owned it did our wedding cake. She didn't get many requests for chocolate buttercream on wedding cakes, but it looked really pretty with the fall color theme! Sadly, she retired, but I was able to order one more cake for my B-day at least.

I'm so sorry you didn't get that chance. Maybe since you know the folks who ran the restaurant, you can get some recipes from them... or even better, get invited over their place for dinner! ;)

But you have my utmost sympathy. *Hugs*
