sharelle: (Wash - Inevitable Betrayal!)

It's been a relatively lazy Memorial Day . . . well, in terms of sitting-around-soaking-up-the-beautiful-weather-lazy. I did still manage to get some things accomplished:

- Made back-up copies of my Arrested Development Season 2 DVDs to mail to Tom in Iraq. (Gotta keep the troops entertained, after all. And he and his men apparently went through Season 1 as well as both seasons of BSG in no time flat. *G*)
- Got my checkbook balanced. (Ugh.)
- Changed my LJ layout. After about 3 years, I've decided to branch away from "Components." I kinda like the new one, though I think it may take some getting used to. I'm digging the springy pastel colors, though. (I've gotta find myself a pretty fandom-y banner too. I haven't had one in very long.)

Also, since I've been on such a Firefly kick lately, I've compiled a list of recs I don't think I've mentioned before (though a few of them I've read several times). Feed the authors if you follow the links! :)

Ice in Crystal by [livejournal.com profile] juliefortune – Action/adventure, Mal/Inara, a horde of Reavers, and a Firefly storyline that Tim Minear never got the chance to tell. Very dark, but very excellent.

Embracing a Life of Crime by Macha – A little more lighthearted, one of my favorite Wash/Zoë "how they might have gotten together" stories.

Time Enough by KateMonster – Another Wash/Zoë which spans the duration of their relationship. Beautiful and sometimes heartbreaking.

Not to Know by [livejournal.com profile] thegranddewru – Yet another Wash/Zoë (A pattern with me, yes, I know.) Set during the BDM, and shows just what lengths Wash will go to for his wife . . . even if she never knows.

Indistinguishable from Magic by [livejournal.com profile] kieyra - Miranda wasn't the Parliament's only secret. An excellent and almost plausible "what-if."

Torquetum by [livejournal.com profile] sarahetc - One of the contributions to the recent Z/W ficathon. Amazing characterization, (very hot) married lovin', and an absolutely incredible story. (There's a bit of Simon/River, in case that sort of thing bothers you, but it's handled in such a beautiful way.)

Under the Tejas Sun by [livejournal.com profile] ninamonkey - I still have to get through some of the fics written for the Zoë/Wash ficathon, but I couldn't post a list of recs without mentioning this one. Beautiful, feisty pre-series Z/W. I absolutely love this one!

Virtual Firefly: Here's how it might have been... by a very talented creative staff – My favorite virtual season right now. It boasts excellent character voices and unique plotlines that are extremely reminiscent of the show. Written in script format (which normally doesn't appeal to me), but I find myself not minding in the least. (Start with their vision of the end of Season 1.)

Love the new layout! Very neat and shiny. I keep trying to find help for funky sidebars and banners and such but no real luck so far. I've been bored of my own layout for ages now.

Thanks! I'm getting used to the layout -- I've really wanted a change for a while. (I'm not an expert on layouts, but there are a few simple things I know how to do if you need help. *G*)

Do you know how to add a banner to the top of the page? I've had a beautiful one made for me and I really want to show it off, but I'm so inept.

I found this tutorial to be very helpful the last time I added a banner. I know that LJ changed a few things around when they updated a few months ago, so some of the overrides may be different now, but it may still work.

Good luck! Hope it works!

There is nothing in that tutorial for Flexible Squares. How do do it there is explained here: http://community.livejournal.com/s2flexisquares/130476.html

I completely love flexible squares and don't know why I didn't use it earlier. So great choice!

Thank you, sweetie! I appreciate that muchly. juliejordan, above, doesn't use Flexi-Squares, so the one I have may work for her. But your link will come in very handy for me! (And you're right: I'm definitely growing more and more fond of my new layout all the time!)

Thanks again! :)

I'm not sure why. It was made by [livejournal.com profile] bravo_icons . . . among a few others called the "sopapilla people." I never thought to ask, I just thought it was adorable. :)

It *is* cute... he also appears to have musical notes issuing from him... perhaps he's playing a tune on the bottle?

Was happily surprised to see Alan Tudyck (sp?) on a later episode of Fraiser, playing a dotcom millionaire who buys the station - with ginger hair an a lot thinner!

Alan was quite trim in Serenity as well. I was very impressed. (Either that, or his flight suit had some rather nice angles on it.) ;)

He's also the kind of actor that just manages to get work everywhere -- which is good! The Arrested Development DVDs that I just burned for my brother featured him playing Pastor Veal in one of the later episodes. *So* funny . . . and also a bit more ginger!
