I try not to ever post from work, but I just can't seem to bring myself to do the things I should be doing today.
They shortened our class periods at the beginning and the end of the day to allow time for classroom decorating in the morning, and an Advent prayer service in the afternoon. Decorating the room for Christmas wouldn't have been so bad if it wasn't for the fact that I have way too many kids for each of them to have a job to do. It was just asking for trouble. Then, naturally, I got a lot of the "You know what you should do, Ms. R? You should get a real tree! You should get some lights! You should get strings of garland that we can wind around the blackboards! You should do all kinds of things that will generally be a pain in your ass, but will make us squeal in adolescent delight until such time as we grow bored with your efforts!"
My answer to that would be *headdesk.* "And just which one of you is going to plan on sticking around on the day before the Christmas holiday to help me take it all down?"
They're just going to have to make due with my Hispanic Nativity set, my various stockings, a handful of Spanish ornaments, and my "Feliz Navidad" flag. (Some of the more artistic kids did draw a really nice fireplace on my back board, which is where we hung the stockings.)
In other news, I'm going to be on tv. Not tonight, but we're taping a Christmas special that will be shown later this month. I don't think there's anyone on my flist who lives in NE Pennsylvania, but if there is (and you want to see/hear me singing scads of Yuletide songs), they will probably tell us tonight when it will be airing.
