Fanfic Author Appreciation Week
March 6 through March 13

Post to your LJ each day at least one of your favorite fanfic authors and why you love them, their work, and why they need more appreciation.

Today I'd like to focus on the appreciation of some of my favorite MIAs. There are so many fabulous authors out there who have written some truly brilliant WIPs. Then Real Life, or Priorities, or Loss of Interest sets in, and fandom (along with all related activities such as fanfic) falls by the wayside. Here are a few authors who, while I've not heard a peep from them in a very long time, have written stories that, though unfinished, top my list of favorites any day! (The "And Then..." icon seemed appropriate when pimping the authors of unfinished works. *G*)

Michael Bugg – "The Buggman" wrote the first fanfic I'd ever read. And while I've been inspired many times since, it was very likely his writing that first prompted me to consider trying my hand at fic myself. (For that, alone, I appreciate him utterly.) While his characters weren't always completely spot-on (his Eric, while still "Eric," often struck me as a bit mature), they were beautifully crafted within the world of his stories, and his style and plotting were second to none. Sadly, his wonderful WIP, The City of Silver Fire, hasn't seen an update since 1998, which was just as I was entering the fandom. Even sadder, I didn't get much of a chance to get to know him before he moved on.

Jericho TGF – Admittedly, I haven't been around the Buffy fandom for as long as I've been in others. Therefore, I'm not always privy to the stories behind some authors' departures. But this is one I'm often very sorry that I don't see more from. I started out reading When Eternity Hangs in the Balance and was immediately hooked for good. Her Spike and Buffy have absolutely gorgeous chemistry together. And although my other favorite, Haunt of the House, seems permanently stalled at the last chapter, I continue to adore her writing so much that I don't mind reading it again and again in all its unfinished splendor.

L.A. Ward – I've seen this name mentioned many, many times. Just, unfortunately, not recently. When I first discovered, When Darkness Falls (co-written with Sanguine), I was in awe of the talent and creativity behind the story. The characters were so vivid, and the story just sucks the reader in. The fact that it was unfinished led me to seek out anything else she'd written. When I found Consequence (also incomplete), I went insane all over again. Both stories are so tremendous, and both "end" in such spectacular but torturous places! I admire her completely for the talent she has, and hope all the time to see a conclusion to her outstanding works!
