28 – Have you ever collaborated with anyone else, whether writing together, or having an artist work on a piece about your fic?

Aside from working with a beta, and working as a beta for others, I've never actually directly collaborated on a story with anyone. Somebody asked me once - a long time ago, for the D&DC fandom - but nothing ever came of it. (We were both busy, and it just never got past the idea stages.)

I have participated in a few challenges in the Buffy fandom where artists "claim" a fic to make art for. (That's how I got this marvelous banner by [livejournal.com profile] sandy_s and an amazing series of banners and icons by [livejournal.com profile] deathisyourart.) I also took part in an "Art-a-Thon" that worked the other way around: an artist creates something which is then claimed by a writer who creates a story around it. (I chose this one, and the accompanying story turned out pretty well, even if it wasn't something I would have written without the push. I got a little stalled on the last chapter, but it's definitely one that I'd still love to go back and finish.)

I've never actually "had" an artist do anything for me, though. (With the exception of the wonderful D&D Christmas Challenges, which specifically took "gift" requests that we filled for each other - like a Secret Santa.) I've been amazed, surprised, and profoundly grateful to anyone who ever felt the desire to draw or make anything based on my stories (and I have gotten a few very spectacular things completely out of the blue!), but I've never actually come right out and asked. Hoped, yes - but never really asked.
