sharelle: (Out of Joint)
I found it hard to believe that it's been more than a month since I last updated this story. It really doesn't feel like that long, but the past few weeks have gone by in a bit of a haze – though not necessarily in a good way. I'm starting to feel better little by little, however, and as a result, since last weekend, I've started picking away at writing again.

I actually have most of the next chapter for this written as well, though I'm not wholly certain of how satisfied I am with it. This scene is very short, and there are parts (one paragraph in particular) that I'm still not happy with, but it does close out Chapter 5 and set the stage for Buffy to really enter the story. As usual, I may do some editing later, although I hope people enjoy what is here.

Previous sections can be found in my Memories.

Out of Joint Chapter 5 – Part 2 )
sharelle: (Señorita - la maestra)
I managed to get my résumé updated today, which was basically my goal for the weekend. So I's happy about that. I actually felt a bit more heartened while working - since the résumé is not too shabby if I do say so myself. (Of course, whether or not a prospective employer agrees with me remains to be seen.)

I do have a possible interview this week, about which I'm both encouraged and having major reservations.

Encouraged because:
A) the school is less than 3 minutes from my home (as opposed to the half-hour commute I'd made for the last 7 years).
B) less time back and forth on the road may just mean a less-consistently-tired me and I might re-develop my adult social life (something seriously lacking lately).
C) it's not likely to close on me anytime soon.

Possessing of reservations because:
A) I'd still be working in a private school, so there would be no improvement in salary.
B) not only is it still a private school, but it's still in the same freaking Diocese that screwed me out of my last job.

As a result of this last reason, I wasn't sure if I even wanted to take the interview, you know, on sheer principle. (I'm not sure how comfortable I'd be even walking in that building after what happened to us.) But, if it turns out to be my only option I may not have a choice...that is, if I want a job next year.

As I agonized over this, my Dad put a few things in perspective for me. He said, "I understand your feelings on the Diocese. And I get that you don't want to work for them again. But while you're taking a stand, why not also take their money?"

Smart guy, my Dad.

Plus, the Diocese will also pay half my tuition if I decide to go for my PhD at one of the local religious universities. So there's also that.

There are a few other prospects as well. The adjunct position is still a possibility (Thanks again to [livejournal.com profile] makd and [livejournal.com profile] darkwoods for your terrific input!), as are at least two public schools (which are, regrettably, a pretty far drive). Oh, and a charter school, in which I really have no interest. There are also one or two options in non-educational fields, which seem interesting.

For the first time in several weeks, I'm actually encouraged. (And, who knows, I may just find something perfect for me.)
