Doctor Who

Honestly? While it's still mildly entertaining, I'm generally not impressed. And I actually haven't been for a while. I hate to say that it was Rose holding my interest during all of last season (because I've watched DW long enough to know: it's a primary law of Who-physics that companions will come and go), but the more I watch the series without her, the less about it I find interesting.

I've never been much of a fan of Tennant's Doctor from the beginning. Not that I dislike the guy, I just think that Eccleston was far-and-away a much better Doctor. (And thank fandom I can still see him periodically on Heroes!) There was an edgy charm to the show while he was on it - a satisfaction with the series I'm just not getting from Tennant. As for Martha . . . she's beautiful, she wears blessedly less mascara than her predecessor, but she's *boring*! That certainly doesn't do much to bring some of that edgy charm back to the show. If Martha continues to be such an angsty wallflower, she'll be rather forgettable as a companion.

I'm also starting to find the recycling of some of the classic villains to be getting a little tired - even boring as well. I used to love the Daleks. I was even giddy when they were resurrected in season 1. But now, when the Doctor is squaring off against them every time we turn around, I just want to roll my eyes and beg for some new material. (And the twist with the Dalek-human hybrid? Ugh. Not only was the delivery fairly lame, but it sapped a lot of what made the Daleks so cool and scary - if always a little cheesy - in the first place.) And we're back to only one Dalek left . . . again. Seems there's been only one Dalek left in existence several times already. I can see how the Face of Boe must be right - the Doctor is probably not alone because he does have a difficult time calculating the remaining members of a species.

As far as a season rundown goes, S1 was dark and (dare I say?) fantastic, S2 was pretty good, but a lot more fluffy in the ways Rose and the Doctor were constantly making with the goo-goo eyes; S3 is just leaving me cold. I keep feeling as though I'm waiting for something to happen, and it's just not.

So now I feel that I'm only continuing to watch to keep an eye out for things that remind me of the Days of Nine -- namely the occasional Rose mention, and the eventual reappearance of Jack (although I'm fairly sure that won't be handled the way I'd like it to be, plot-wise).

And if DW eventually fades from my screen entirely, meh. At least I have other sci-fi to keep me entertained. That new one with Eccleston, for instance. :)
