DW: Army of Ghosts
I've had the episode lingering on my HD since Saturday night, but I ended up going to see The Devil Wears Prada that evening before I could watch it. (Cute movie. Not fabulous, but definitely enjoyable. Though it made me realize how much I need a room filled with designer clothes that I can wear for free where *I* work. Jeez.) We also had our holiday weekend picnic yesterday, so AoG had to wait until last night.
- Holy foreshadowing, Batman! And I'm not just talking about Rose's big "This is how I died" prologue, although that was the big one - and, to me, a bit in-your-face to be taken for granted. I'll get to that one in a second. It seems they're possibly setting up Jackie for an exit as well. (Which makes sense, since Billie Piper is leaving. No need to keep up with Rose's family ties once that character is gone.) Her question about what Rose will do when she (Jackie) is dead seemed to be hinting at something. (Would it be more compassionate, in a way, to kill Jackie's character, rather than have her live alone once Rose is gone?)
- Regarding Billie Piper's exit, I think the speech at the beginning sets up Rose's "death" in a way that's too obvious. I'm fairly certain there will be more to it that that. (After all, where's she telling the story from?) I'm still hoping for something that will tie into her memory loss from last season. (I noticed two references to it so far this year: one during T&C where a reference is made to "the wolf" in her, and one in this episode where the Doctor mentions - albeit casually - Rose's absorption of all the energy in the time vortex. There may have even been more that I missed.)
- So I guess the info about the Cybermen and the Daleks was correct. Not that I didn't enjoy the episode, but, as I said before, I wish they didn't recycle the old villains so much.
- Best parts about the episode? The cameo by Nine (even if it was just stock footage), and the return of Mickey! (I was so, *so* happy that I didn't get spoiled for everything!) It made me wonder whether to trust what "they" say about what will and what won't happen. "They" said that John Barrowman wouldn't be making an appearance on DW until next season, but with the unexpected appearance of Micky, who knows. Maybe "they" lied. It would seem like the perfect time for him to show up. And speaking of Captain Jack . . .
- I don't know much about the premise of Torchwood, but after seeing how they operate in "Army of Ghosts" I must wonder if Jack will be working for them, or against them. I'm starting to lean more toward the latter. But then, like I said, I haven't done any investigating as to the storyline of that series.
- Theory: Rose becomes the Face of Boe. That's the big secret (s)he didn't tell the Doctor yet during "New Earth." (Just kidding. Or am I?) ;)
