To be honest, I'd been worried that some of the discrepancies that I'd purposely stuck in there might be a bit jarring to readers
Honestly? They were, until you referred to them enough that I was confident you were at least aware of them and going to address them (or better yet, had planned them, and that there were going to be interesting revelations as a result), rather than just being kind of sloppy with the logic. Whenever I read a new author, it's hard to know how much you can trust them to be consistent and logical, you know? But I don't need the full explanations right away as long as I'm confident the author is on top of things =). And I am, now that I've read through everything you have up so far.
BTW by the time I got to this section the other night, I was reading as fast as I could b/c I needed to get to bed. I went back and reread it, and the whole Spike-Giles dynamic is a lot of fun. I love that Spike had all this experience and knowledge of Giles, and obviously enjoyed throwing Giles off by dropping hints at it. I wasn't clear at all how Spike viewed Giles post-LMPTM - he was snarky in Empty Places, but he also went along readily enough and didn't seem to hold a huge grudge - and him not being entirely pleased with Giles as a consequence, yet still respecting his knowledge is certainly a logical possibility.
And btw, one of the things I'm really enjoying about your depiction of S2 Spike stuck in AtS S5 and S5 Spike back in S2 is how they're both snarky and know how to find their target's psychological weaknesses, but how S2 Spike has this distinctive nasty edge that S5 Spike lacks. Souled Spike can get mean and nasty in the right circumstances (LMPTM), but in AtS S5, the snarkiness seemed to be fueled more from a sense of...fun? and discomfort with the situation. You can feel the moderating influence of the soul in him, and how it takes the same character trait and gives it an entirely different feel. It's good stuff!
BTW I clicked on your Buffy fics rec link in your journal and there's a lot of good stuff there! Some I've read and loved, some I've read, loved, and forgotten, and some I've never read at all, and you can be sure I'll go check those out. Thanks for that!
