sharelle: (Game of Thrones - Dany/Jorah)
I enjoyed both the season finale of The Walking Dead and the season premiere of Game of Thrones last night. I'll be looking forward to having much more to say about GoT once the season really gets underway.

I did have two minor quibbles about Walking Dead though...

Really, Rick? Really? )

ETA: Huh. Seems my LJ's default mood went right to "blah." I know social media can pinpoint our locations now when we're posting, but are they assuming to know our feelings too? :P

Weirdness

sharelle: (Weird)
Has anyone else had an LJ member pop up on their flist who wasn't actually on their flist? At first I thought one of my friends had simply changed their screen name, but when I checked out their profile, I saw that wasn't the case. Not only did I not know them, but neither did anyone else that I'm mutual friends with.

Granted, they gave some helpful information about LJ's upcoming new policies, but I'm confused as to why they showed up on my flist in the first place.

Weird.

WTF, LJ?

Oh, wow. I really hate the new LJ cuts.

Like burning.

Oh, so many mixed LJ emotions flying around these days. I haven't run into any big problems myself yet, but I know a lot of people are upset and disappointed by the recent changes.

My Dreamwidth account is fairly dormant, but I have had it for years as a backup. Apparently, I haven't input any posts from LJ since sometime in 2009, so I'm doing that now. (A lot of people must be jumping the LJ ship lately, though, because the importing queue sounds like it's long.)

If anyone has an account at Dreamwidth that I have not already friended over there, let me know and I will! Given the choice, I prefer to stay on LJ, but it seems prudent to keep the options open.

You know, it's interesting that I can be on LJ nearly every day and yet never post anything. (Two pages of back-posts are mostly birthday wishes - which I've also been woefully behind on the last two months.) So I thought I'd come out of my self-imposed exile and post some of the fic I've been putting up elsewhere.

I don't know how many of you have been to see Megamind - with the exception of [livejournal.com profile] thegranddewru, because I remember she made icons - but oh my gosh, if that movie wasn't made of awesome! Those who have been on my flist for a while know that most of my fandom loves (besides the Whedonverse) all involve cartoony goodness. This one is better than most. Seriously, go buy it in 2 weeks when it comes out on DVD; you won't be disappointed! [/shameless plug]

So here's a little ficlet from that fandom - one of three I have so far. (My D&DC friends may notice the infinitesimal shout-out to one of the characters in that fandom. *G*)

Enjoy!

Title: Standard Issues
Summary: The world of superheroes has recurring standards. Some just have more of a twist than others.
Characters: A mindless drone's OC's eye-view near the end of the movie (with a splash of Megamind and Roxanne) So yes: there be spoilers!
Rating: G
Word Count: 540

. . . Not everyone in town was privy to what was going on between the main characters in the film. Conclusions (even ridiculous ones) can be drawn – especially by those with overactive imaginations.

Superhero resurrection. Classic standard storyline. )

Although I never really wanted one, I finally broke down and got myself a Facebook page. )

In other news, the marathon training has been going very well. Got a good 15-miles in last week and looking to do an 18 either next week or the week after. However, I'm starting to feel a little nervous that my dad hasn't been going as fast as me during our training. I'm the one who's starting to have to drop back, and that worries me a bit - I never had to do that before. I'd like to think it's just me improving, because I hate to think there might be something wrong with him.

I'm also kind of missing The Boy this week. (He's on vacation with his family in Jamaica.)

The wonderful [livejournal.com profile] spark_force has given me an invite to Dreamwidth (Thanks again, sweetie! *hugs*) so I'm seeing what all the talk is about.

Currently, I'm only wandering around the premises, a little confused as to what I should do first (sort of like when I first started my LJ). There probably won't be anything worth viewing for a while, but if anyone else has an account, I've set up shop as [livejournal.com profile] sharelle. Feel free to stop by while I'm scoping out the new digs!

Stolen from several members of my flist. Many of you have probably already seen this today, but this is to help spread the word to anyone who hasn't . . .

For those of you who don't already know, there has been a strike scheduled for Friday, March 21st, 2008, during which we hope to have many members of LiveJournal provide LJ with absolutely no content for twenty-four hours. This means no posting and no commenting. If you post elsewhere and have it set up to be posted through a feed on LiveJournal, don't do it. Stay away from LiveJournal for twenty-four hours. That can't be too hard, can it? I know some of you are probably quite active on LiveJournal and will find it hard to stay away for an entire day, just as I will, but this is something that needs to be done, to show the people running LiveJournal that we're watching the changes they are making, that we're paying attention, that we're discontent, and that we want to be heard and taken in to consideration. We are not simply users who can be tossed to the side and ignored. We are the people who make up LiveJournal. Without us, without the content we create, without our words, our voices, our creativity, our participation, there would be no LiveJournal. This is a fact, and it needs to be realized and understood and then taken in to consideration when making decisions regarding the way that LiveJournal is run. The strike is only a few days away, so there isn't all too much time to prepare. While this is unfortunate, it isn't enough to keep this strike from taking place. It will take place, the second it is meant to, and it would be best to have as many people take part as possible. Please, spread the word. Spread it fast. There are only a few days to organize this. If you find that you care about LiveJournal or care about the people you interact with on LiveJournal or simply want it to remain a place where you can entertain yourself without constant censorship and money-hungry practices being thrown in without the consideration of those who use the service, act now. If you don't wish to spread the word, that is fine, but please: refrain from using LiveJournal on Friday, March 21st. Do something else for a change. It's for a good cause. (:

What's this about?

* It's about free and ad-free LiveJournal accounts being abolished for new members, ignoring the advice from the newly-formed Advisory Board.
* It's about LJ staff trying to sneak this decision in under the radar, and when people found out, telling the users it was done 'to make the signup process less confusing'.
* It's about LJ staff failing to apologize for trying to hide the facts from view and for lying about the actual reasons for their actions.
* And finally, it's about the latest decision to hide certain user interests from the list of Most Popular Interests, some of them being fanfiction, bisexuality, sex and depression. This decision was not announced or explained in any way. Users found out for themselves.

Therefore, for now, I'll wish a very Merry Christmas to my wonderful LJ friends!

This post is mostly as a test. For some reason nothing new has popped up on my flist since 9:30-ish this morning.

Or is it really that quiet around here today?

In other news, I've finished all my submissions for this year's DDCC. Yayness! :)

I seem to have disappeared from my own friends list. Weird - I can't see my previous post right now (unless I click on my own journal). Maybe it's some residual hiccup from Six Apart's power outage last night.

(Be warned if you click on the link above. It includes my long and rambling review of Deathly Hallows. Although, if you've read the book, I'd love to hear some other opinions now that I can finally join the party, so click away!

I also couldn't resist posting to mention that one other thing that I loved about DH:

Cut for courtesy, but no real spoilers )
