I'm so happy at the moment! I received a review for Begin the Beguine yesterday (a personal favorite story of mine, I must admit) in which the reader said they had followed a recommendation from TV Tropes.

Natrually, I was all, "Wait -- what?" Because I had absolutely no idea a story of mine had been rec'ed over there. So I wandered over and--

*OMG LKDJASLGFKJSDLF FLAIL!* There it was.

Naturally, it made my day!

Below the cut I've assembled some of the best Megamind fic I've been reading lately. I decided it would behoove me to make a rec list since, when I'm in a fandom, that's what I do.

So far, I have reviewed most of these (either here or on FF.N), but I haven't made my way through all of them yet. (So if you see your story here, and I haven't gotten to you yet, don't worry! I will!) I do encourage those of you who follow a link here to please feed the authors! If you get enjoyment from a story, the writer has at least earned a minute or two to review!

This is by no means a complete list, and I'm sure I'll be adding to it many times. I'll even take recommendations if anyone reading this happens to see a gem I've missed. (And don't forget to take note of the ratings, kids! I personally don't have a problem with a little smutty fun, but I know that's not everyone's cup of tea. So careful where you tread.)

Now, make a note: It needs to be a lot bigger! )

ETA: Now with even more recs in the comments! Enjoy!

In regards to fanfic, one of the things I always promised myself was never to be "the writer who never finished ________." Yet ever since beginning my new job, that's what happened lately. Over the last three years, it seems that, while I don't seem to lack inspiration or fandom-love, the time and energy to write has been a completely different story. As a result, I have three unfinished fics (stories I actually happen to like) darkening my hard drive.

I really, really, really want to use this coming summer to rectify that - at least a little bit - because I hate leaving things unfinished. ("Out of Joint," particularly, nags at me, since I had spent quite a bit of time on that one. In fact, I have about fifty more un-posted pages of it written, though much of it has been sitting there, unedited, for the better part of three years.)

Not only that, but new story ideas have been circling, and plot bunnies have been hopping around and poking at me with their little bunny-feet and I absolutely *refuse* to start something new until I've made a real effort to finish what I've already got . . . [/rant]

So I'm hoping to find the inspiration to do some dedicated work in the coming months. And I'm hoping my flist can help me out a little in that aspect. I need to get my Spuffy brain back in good working order, so is there any Spike/Buffy story you've read recently that is particularly marvelous? (Any rating is fine.) Link me in the comments! I'll be eternally grateful!

I've also made up my mind to re-read "Out of Joint" so I can continue with some credibility. And I may even post a small portion of what's been lying around my hard drive in the next day or so - for a much-needed kick-start.

*crosses fingers for fic-luck*

I haven't watched a lot of Buffy lately - mainly because it's on as I'm going out the door to work. But I did have it on for a few minutes this morning, and something early in the episode jumped out at me. (Don't you love it when you've watched something enough times to know it very well, but still manage to find something you hadn't noticed before? Me too!)

Cut...just because )

As I mentioned a few days ago, there was a lot of talent on display in the D&DC fandom. I wanted to take a moment to finally gush properly over the challenges that were fulfilled for me.

Challenge-y Goodness! )

I hope to discuss more of the challenges later, but for now these were the ones done for me. Did I have the bestest Christmas ever? I think so! :)

To all the Firefly fans on my flist, I thought I'd take one last opportunity to pimp The Strawberries: The Blue Sun Firefly Awards. Tomorrow is the last official day for voting, and the ballots can be found here.

At the very least, consider this an unofficial rec, as the awards provide links to many outstanding stories. (I have two fics nominated here and here, though - glutton for punishment that I am - I nominated some of the wonderful stories that make up my competition. *G*)

So take this last day to read, enjoy, and vote for any that really strike your fancy!

It's been a relatively lazy Memorial Day . . . well, in terms of sitting-around-soaking-up-the-beautiful-weather-lazy. I did still manage to get some things accomplished:

- Made back-up copies of my Arrested Development Season 2 DVDs to mail to Tom in Iraq. (Gotta keep the troops entertained, after all. And he and his men apparently went through Season 1 as well as both seasons of BSG in no time flat. *G*)
- Got my checkbook balanced. (Ugh.)
- Changed my LJ layout. After about 3 years, I've decided to branch away from "Components." I kinda like the new one, though I think it may take some getting used to. I'm digging the springy pastel colors, though. (I've gotta find myself a pretty fandom-y banner too. I haven't had one in very long.)

Also, since I've been on such a Firefly kick lately, I've compiled a list of recs I don't think I've mentioned before (though a few of them I've read several times). Feed the authors if you follow the links! :)

Just a quick run-by rec before my homeroom comes in:

[livejournal.com profile] opalish posted an extremely wonderful Firefly story to [livejournal.com profile] afterserenity called Beast to Bird. Very short, but with incredible insight into River's voice.

Go, read and leave lovely feedback!

The Strawberries: Firefly Fanfiction Awards
Banner by [livejournal.com profile] luridmuse

The Strawberries are accepting nominations for outstanding Firefly fanfiction and vids (now through January 31).

In recognition, I decided to post a list of recs here – especially since I've found so many wonderful fan creations since being introduced to the series. These are only a few of my current favorites and, while not all are eligible for nomination during this award round, every single one of them is very well-done.

Regarding these recs:

* The ratings range from very mild to adult-reading, so be sure to check the warnings at each site.
* I'm a big Wash fan (as well as Wash/Zoë), so many of these stories are a little 'centric. *G*
* Assume that there may be spoilers for Serenity, both in the stories and in the descriptions below the cut.

I'd like to encourage others to nominate their favorite works as well. There are lots of fics and vids out there worth more than a little praise!

Enjoy!

I love the creativity of fandom. And I really admire those individuals who put together such lovely things to be enjoyed by the rest of us. However, there are only a few fandoms in which I really go in search of those things. D&DC was my first, and I'll probably never stray far from it. I also practically devour anything related to Spike and Buffy.

There are other fandoms which, while I love them, I don't feel the need to hunt down fanfic, vids or other creative endeavors to extend my enjoyment. For example, BSG is currently one of my favorite shows, but I just don't have the desire to seek out fan-created works. The same goes for fandoms such as Lost, LotR, Harry Potter, etc.

Firefly used to be among them. However, since seeing the film last weekend, I seem to have had a major change of heart. (Not only did I write my first FF story [/shameless plug], but I've been reading a lot as well.)

Beneath the cut are several things that I've recently discovered which - for those of you with the interest - are definitely worth checking out. (I've cut this because some of the recs include fairly large spoilers for Serenity. If you haven't seen it yet, come back later. Trust me, not knowing is *way* more enjoyable.)

Firefly Recs [with spoilers for Serenity] )

So my request: I'm relatively new to the seek-and-devour aspect of Firefly fandom (mainly in terms of fic), although I have read a few very good stories over time. (Specifically, I remember [livejournal.com profile] evil_overlord rec'ing some very good ones a while back.) I know about some of the larger official sites, but some of them require membership and I'm not interested in joining a *whole* site to access good fic, vids, etc. If there are other worthwhile places to visit (archives or websites), I'd love to be made aware of them.

It's pretty easy to search the Buffyverse for great stuff, but I've found Firefly to be a bit more difficult to come by. Or, I may simply not know where to go to look. Therefore, can anyone suggest some good fic archives, specific stories, or vidders to me? While I'm especially fond of action set after or around Serenity, it's early for that yet and there may not be as large a variety as there probably will be.

Any suggestions would be lovely!
